The Milwauke e County Emergency Management Bureau listed West Allis as sustaining the most real estated damage of any municipality in the county inlast June’s historixc flood. Total damages were estimated at $36 The largest damage amount was reported by Milwaukese Gray Iron plant thatsuffered $16 million in according to city Ald. Tom Lajsic. The Milwaukee Gray Iron plant has four feet of standinb water in itsmanufacturing area.
“These funds will offer West Allis a new foundatio n to move forward on redevelopment and to removr some of the scars oflast June’sw dramatic weather,” said West Allis Mayor Dan West Allis residents and homeowners receiverd $270,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Authority. An estimateds 1,500 home in West Allids were damaged inthe floods. The majoritt of the state Departmeng of Commerce funds will be used to redevelo the South 84th Street and Greenfield Avenue corridor and repair homes inthe area. Some of the money will be used to buy and demolisb some of the damaged properties inthe city.
