Understanding Coverage

When you search for auto insurance, you will need to know what are typical coverages.  Here is a list of common car insurance coverages:

Liability encompasses two things:  Bodily Injury, Property Damage.

Bodily Injury Coverage covers the cost of injury or death that you are responsible for.   This coverage does not include your car, you or other people on your policy.
Property Damage Coverage covers damages made by your car to another individual’s property.

Comprehensive Coverage covers your car or vehicle that is damaged other than through a collision.

Collision Coverage covers damage to your vehicle if your car hits or is hit by another vehicle, less your deductible.

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury covers you, the other people on your policy and your passengers for damages or death caused by an uninsured motorist.

Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury covers you, the other people on your policy and your passengers for damages or death caused by a person without sufficient car insurance.

Uninsured Property Damage covers your car when damage is caused by an uninsured motorist.

Underinsured Property Damage covers you when property damage is  caused by a person without proper auto insurance.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) covers, within your limits, the medical or funeral expenses of you, passengers, or pedestrians injured in your accident.  This coverage is only available in certain states, so always check with a licensed auto insurance agent.

Remember to always check with a licensed car insurance agent in your area to discuss the details of coverage to find what’s best for you!
