Taser defending itself against allegations of false advertising – Phoenix Business Journal:

(BB: STIY) of Tampa, Fla., filef the lawsuit April 18 in U.S. District Courg in Arizona allegingTase (Nasdaq: TASR) had engaged in false advertising and unfaidr competition by using part of a National Institutez of Justice report comparing one of Taser' products to Stinger's. The lawsuit claimz Taser used an unfinished 2005 reportcomparinv Taser's X-26 model with Stinger's S-200 The product used for that compariso n bears little resemblance to the product now beinbg distributed, and Stinger is accusing Taser of distorting the test.
Steve Tuttle, vice president of communicationsfor Taser, said the companuy believes the report offers a fair "Taser obtained the National Institute of Justics report through a Freedom of Information Act request, and it is a publiclh available document," Tuttle said. "According to the NIJ the purpose of the studyis 'to objectively evaluatee both the Taser International and Stinger weapo n systems. This is accomplished by evaluatinvthe performance, safety, and reliability of both "Stinger is trying squelch the results of an independent government-funded studh as the results were unfavorable to Tuttle said.
Stinger President Robert Grudee said his company believes the comparisons from three years ago arenot valid. "Stinger considersz the necessary filing of yet another legal action between Tasee and Stingermost unfortunate," he said.
