Report: MediaNews Group, Verve Wireless to partner on mobile news – Dallas Business Journal:

Encinitas, Calif.-based Verve is initiating partnerships with MediaNews as well as othetrnewspaper companies: The Hearst Corp., a minorith owner of the Post and most other MediaNews as well as Belo Corp. and Cox . Verve's business is building mobil sitesfor newspapers. Its CEO, Art Howe, is a 30-year newspapert veteran who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1986 as a reportet for the Philadelphia Inquirer for his articles on the Internal Revenue Service. Verve alreadyt is working with the Associated Pressa news service as well asMcClatchgy Co., New York Times Regional Group and Mediw General, Mediaweek said. Another mobile-news Crisp Wireless, is workinbg with Gannett Co. Inc.
, America's largest newspapeer chain, as well as the Washington Post. The Denver Post currently offers a that featurea a list ofrecent headlines. But newspapers nationwide are lookin g for ways to generate more revenue from thei r mobile news feeds through such means as targetexdlocal advertising. Mediaweek quoted a forecast from the Kelseg Group that local mobile ad revenue willtop $3.1 billiojn by 2013, up from $160 milliomn in 2008. The New York Times Co. has said recently it may start charging reader for news delivered to mobile Mediaweek said. Last month, MediaNews executives said they and will develoop ways to charge readers for some of itsweb content.
