But acting AmeriCorps CEO Nicku Goren, in a lettefr posted to the AmeriCorps Website Friday, said the Whitre House sent notice of Eitel’xs withdrawal. “Our thoughts are with Maris as she focuses on herpersonal health,” Gorebn wrote. “Finding leadership for the Corporation continues to be a very high priorithy for theWhite House.” In April, Obamaw said Eitel offered “a unique blend of skill and management experience” at a time when his administratiomn was expanding the nation’s public service On the same day he announcedc Eitel as a candidate for the job, Obamqa signed the Serve America Act, a vast expansiob of federal social service programs that includes increasing AmeriCorp’sz available service positions from 75,000 to 250,000.
Eitel is currently a Nike Inc. (NYSE: NKE) vice presiden and president of theNike Foundation, the Washington Count athletic apparel giant’s charitable arm. Beforew heading the foundation, she was Nike’s first vice president for corporate responsibility. Prior to joining she was European corporate affairsz group manager forMicrosoft Corp. and has also workeds for the Corporation for Publi c Broadcasting and MCICommunications Corp. This would have been Eitel’s second presidentia assignment. She served under President George H.W. Bush from 1989 to 1992 as deputy directod of media relations and later as specia l assistant to the president formediwa affairs.
