In a letter delivered to the Metroo Nashville PlanningCommission Thursday, Giarratana – president of – says the multiplse motions and votes made on June 25 during the re-zoning hearint for the $4.2 billio n development in Bells Bend were handled improperly. He is askin g for a new vote at the July 23 PlanninbgCommission Meeting. Metro City Council, which has finap say in the matter, has since delayed its consideratiohn ofthe issue.
The letter says a new vote is necessary “(t)i maintain the integrity of the process, to instilp public confidence, to ensure the applicang is guaranteed its fundamental dueprocess rights, to promotwe a concept of basic fairness, and to correcty the procedural errors that occurrer throughout the evening.” Planningy Department spokesman Craig Owensby says the department is reviewin the request. Jack May, a partner in the project's , says the owners are still evaluating the prospectsa for the development andthe property. The May Town Centedr has been the subject of intensd public debate since it was first introduced inearly 2008.
The developeras say the project is needes to create a viable location for corporate campuses in Davidson Opponents argue that the project is the wront land usethe farmland, and would do harm to the surroundint community, especially in regardss to traffic and congestion. Meanwhile, Giarratana is struggling withfinanciakl difficulties, as an $11.t5 million loan on Giarratana Development’se Signature Towers site in downtown Nashville has been in delinquencyy since February. And his Atlanta-base development partner is trying to extend or restructure atleast $100 million in loans, many of whicj are delinquent.
May says Giarratana is a hireed consultant in the project and does not have any equitt in the May TownCentefr development, and that outsided financial issues had no impacty on the property's prospects — bad or indifferent.” He said there was no apparent reason Giarratana’s role in the project would not continue.
