One law will alloew the bureau, which recordse all real estate transactionsin Hawaii, to accepgt electronic signatures, and also to archived documents digitally instead of on microfilm. The othee takes time share transactions out ofLand Gov. Linda Lingle signed both bills into law within thelast week. One of the new laws increasee the fee for every transaction recorded in the regular systemby $5, effectivwe July 1.
The bureau will use the extraa money for purchasing computers and software and for training the staf for the electronic The Legislature did not includse money for the electronicfilinhg program, but the new law will alloww the bureau to start the planning and will allow the bureau to startg archiving documents electronically, said Registrar Nickj Ann Thompson. The bureau has been working with the Land Titlse Association and the title companies on the issu on aregular basis, she said. The other law sets up a workinv group of staff led by the registrare to look at moving titled to time shares out of Land Court and into the reguladconveyance system.
The known as deregistration, does not take effect until 2011.
