Lee Soo-young, Hyundai's investor-relations team leader, told the Wall Streegt Journal the company will reducerits U.S. output by 40,0090 units because of a drop in demand for sportutility vehicles. The company said it will cut production of an undetermineed number of the sport utility vehicle Santa Fe and focuws more on the smallerSonata sedan, whicnh has seen an increase in sales. Robert Burns, spokesman for the Manufacturing Alabama plant in said the factory alread y has cut production of the Santa Fe over the last severapl months to meet the drop in demanx and has replaced its productionwith Sonatas.
