Friday Night Got Worse and then there was Saturday

At times like these, it’s good to be married.  Phone rings at about 11 at night.  The college aged daughter has borrowed the car.  See where I’m going with this?  ”Mom, put Dad on the phone.”  15 minutes later, we are dressed and driving over in my car.

My daughter is crying.  The other girl is about the same age and is apparently crying too.  A bystander called an ambulance and when the ambulance showed showed up, the driver, seeing that both girls seemed mostly okay, asked the girls if he should call the police.  In tears, they both said, “We need to call our Dads.”  Later she told me with a smile and an apology, that when it came to the accident call, it was Dad.  I was not insulted.

There was a mad search in the glove box for the insurance papers which were never found but the policeman was not evil in fact kinder than we can usually expect.

The front passenger side of our car was smashed, the light was gone, the bumper done in, and the passenger side door could close but not properly.  My twenty year old daughter, almost twenty one, was crying and her neck and back were sore so her father took her to the hospital.  Damn!  It’s hard not to use names.  Soon I must invent pseudonyms because with phrases such as education factory and all the swear words that I may use, anonymity seems to be the way to go.  No photos, so stop expecting a slick blog like the popular girls.

While MH (my husband) drove Beth (my favourite name when I was little, not my daughter’s name, this is her writersblockwall name) to the hospital, I came home, went on Facebook and wrote my status, It could be worse, took a blue-pill to help me sleep and went to bed after checking all my email addresses obsessively.

I tossed and turned and finally the blue-pill worked its magic.  They come home at about 3:30 but it seemed as if I had just closed my eyes…which makes sense because I was tossing and turning for a long time.

At 9:30 this morning, someone from the Education Factory called me up with some problem about one of our products that was not functioning as it should and I had to be conciliatory and wise even though I had just explained what happened the night before.  People can be such idiots.  There, I said it.  If it was me calling, I would have immediately gotten off the phone with multiple apologies for calling so early on a Saturday morning for a fucking stupid reason that could have either waited till later or even waited till Monday.  I may not be a genius, but I have some manners even though I am somewhat of a loser who works in an Education Factory and blogs anonymously.

MH just got off the phone with the insurance company and we are covered…we live in the land of no-fault insurance so there will be no law suits at the very least.  The next week will be spent picking up the shards of glass on the road, figuratively speaking, like the poor girl in the other car who had to pick her bumper out of the middle of the road.

Friday was not what it should have been.
