Auto Insurance – What not to do after you’ve had an accident

I was reading an article recently about a lady who had an accident and was having trouble getting her claim paid under her Uninsured Motorist coverage on her auto insurance policy.  Her insurance company said they couldn’t determine if the other driver involved in the accident had auto insurance or not.  The lady made a big mistake by not getting any information (name, phone number, license plate number) before agreeing to drive to a nearby gas station, where she thought she would be exchanging information with the other driver.  When she turned into the gas station the other driver had other ideas and kept going; she tried to chase the car down but was unable to do so and needless to say it probably wasn’t best idea chasing after the other car while her emotions were running on high.  She’s fortunate she wasn’t involved in another more serious accident where someone could have been injured or even killed.

Accidents do happen in places where you should and I recommend moving to safer locations to exchange information.  To avoid the same situation that happened to the lady involved in accident previously mentioned; you should at least get the license plate number on the car if you cannot get a name, phone number, or driver’s license number before moving.  If you don’t have a pen and paper handy, most cell phones today have cameras built in so you could take a picture of the other driver’s license plate before moving.  For additional information on what you should do after an accident, please contact me at Tarrell@SCVInsuranceGuy.com.
